Bird Flu, and the Day After
It's deja vu at ABC as society disintegrates at the hands of the Big One. It has happened before – specifically in November 1983 when the same network aired "The Day After" which made Lawrence, Kansas the nuclear target of the "Evil Empire" (to use the Reaganesque term du jour for the former USSR).
At last count, there were about 70 deaths from avian flu in China, mostly involving poultry workers. This pales in comparison to the Influenza B epidemic of 1992-1993 which actually claimed enough lives (many in nursing homes) to affect US life expectancy estimates! Heatlh journalist Bill Sardi has more to say on this (need Adobe Acrobat reader).
